Subject: Running Windows Apps on Linux

I am planning to purchase a Laptop and Install Ubuntu onto it.

Just wondering about running different windows apps on it and what is the best way to go about it?

i know most common apps like firefox work.

Just wondering about if i come across something that only has a windows or Mac OSX version, how i can get it to run on Ubuntu or another linux os.

Use Wine.

Wine would be its own os?
so i wouldn't need to run Ubuntu? or can i run them both at the same time or is that worth it?

Wine is a Linux program that will run many Windows applications. So you do need a Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu. Almost all of them will either install wine during installation, or provide it as an easy download.
Your best solution, however, would be to think about the Windows programs that you think you need, and to find proper Linux equivalents.
