Subject: Gentoo & VMware

Working with Gentoo and VMware. I noticed that my network connection suddenly stopped. I checked the Network Utilities and noticed I do not see my virtual network card any more. It is enabled... What I don't understand is that it was working earlier this morning and now it is not. I have tried several reboots to see if DHCP will kick in and I only see the loop back address during the start up process. I've noticed after rebooting I will see the virtual nic sometimes but the information about the IP address, Subnet, etc... will say not available.

Is there anything I can try to re-enable my virtual nic card?

If you need more information please let me know and I will get you what you need.

Thanks,

Hi Corey,

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I am not in the admin group and I don't know the root password. I'm going to have to bug someone for that...

I hope to get back with you shortly.

Thanks,

-john

You shouldn't need to be root to run /sbin/ifconfig -a , in a standard environment
